does not only show the Moon-Phases, but also whether the Sun and/or
Moon are currently visible on the sky.

The Axis of
the Hands can be understood as the location of the Earth.

Since the
Sun-Hand turns a little bit faster (one turn in 24h) than the Moon-Hand (one
turn in 24h 49’), the Moon is waning whenever the Sun-Hand is behind
the Moon-Hand.
